The city of Pescia is located at the north-western limit of the Valdinievole (of which it is the historic capital), a short distance from the border of the province of Pistoia with Lucca. Its territory extends along the valley of the Pescia river; it is renowned for floriculture and for the trade of flowers (in particular carnation), the production of paper, for the hamlet of Collodi, the place where Carlo Lorenzini (Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio) spent part of his childhood, and for the Palio dei Rioni, archery competition with its historical court held every first Sunday in September. It is the most important school complex in the area, the bishopric and administrative center of the Valdinievole.
