Description
It is one of the most beautiful castles in Valleriana. Located on the eastern side of Monte Battifolle, it is a town that offers a view of all the valleys. In the center we find suggestive alleys that cross and pass now under the houses through small tunnels, now near enchanting pergolas or canopies. In the highest part of the village there is a beautiful square furnished with a stone fountain with a quadrangular basin. In a lower position is the church dedicated to SS. Quirico and Giuditta. Of considerable interest is the "Museum of Peasant Civilization", built inside the "Il Frantoio" holiday home and can be visited upon reservation. Coming down from S. Quirico: after a few kilometers you can see the most famous work of art of this area: the parish church of S.S. Tommaso e Ansano di Valeriana, declared a national monument in 1875. A mystery surrounds this parish which seems to testify with its architectural solemnity the persistence of ancient history. Documented since the 9th century, it unfortunately retains only a few finds from the very ancient structure. Rebuilt several times, it now has a pleasing stylistic form reminiscent of the Lombard religious architecture of the twelfth century.
