Located on the slopes of Mount Battifolle, at 627 meters above sea level, the ancient town marked for centuries the border between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Duchy of Lucca. The church of S. Maria Assunta rises in an elevated position. Ecclesiastical architecture denounces a strong reference to Romanesque art. From Stiappa you go down to the Mulino del Fontanone, for a trekking route called the “Via del mulini”.
